CCS is making a concerted effort this year to lean on the amazing community of caregivers we have. But connecting volunteer caregivers to opportunities isn't easy!
Our goal is to create a culture of connections and inclusion. We strive to create enrichment opportunities for students, support for teachers, and inviting for volunteers.
We also understand that time is precious for caregivers. An hour or two of your time is so appreciated! Volunteering is totally based on the schedule of our volunteers!
In an effort to make things easy for both volunteers and teachers, here are some ways caregivers can volunteer—both in person and remote!

Do you love to throw a football, referee a “world-cup soccer game,” or enjoy a giggle listening to the creative stories of our youngest learners? How do you feel about the need for all children to have daily opportunities to run, play, and enjoy all sorts of Vermont weather? Can you support peers through a play-based conflict, focusing on compromising and perspective-taking?
We have a fabulous team of 3-4 staff who supervise all CCS students through a rotation of recess. Having extra folks to support this outdoor priority is needed to buffer staff absenteeism, to positively impact the youth on the playground, and to help cover the various activities that kids enjoy across our campus.

Want to spend time on Pease Mountain with your children and their classmates? Volunteer caregivers are working closely with second-grade teachers this year to take students on Pease Mountain hikes! Two to four volunteers independently lead a group of six students on a hike up and around Pease Mountain every week.
This is a volunteer-led activity that has full support by the teachers and is accessible to all students in the grade two. The teachers help coordinate what students go out on each day and when. This has been successfully lead by grade rep Erin Bleichfeld for second graders. Erin has shared details here!

Our rockstar recess staff are outside with our kids in every type of weather and for that we are so grateful. But they don't have the bandwidth to also manage sledding. On days where the hill behind the school is full of snow, please consider volunteering to take one classroom sledding during recess.
